LIQUID SYSTEMS: Grids that flow
The grid permeates many aspects of our lives and has become synonymous with disciplining in contexts as diverse as architectural, educational, artistic and penal. It seems to have distributed its lines of influence in all directions to regulate timing, pathways and procedures, orchestrating a cacophonic layering of rhythms, which flows rapidly at constant motion taking us all along for a ride.
No wonder that ‘keeping up’ has become an anthem in our time. In LIQUID SYSTEMS: Grids that flow Alex Spremberg combines the inflexibility and severity of the grid with the fluidity of flowing paint to neutralise the polarity of both; the amalgam that result changes both extremes. The precise order of the grid becomes destabilised and the liquid substances find their own rhythm and place.
